  • Audi has a new most powerful production car, and it’s the RS Performance trim of its electric E-tron GT
  • This latest variant of the marque’s four-door EV offers up a total of 912 hp (or 670 hp in base trim)
  • And it used all that power to crack off zero-to-100-km/h (-62-mph) acceleration times of 2.5 seconds

If you have 2.5 seconds to spare, the new Audi RS E-tron GT Performance can get you from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just about that much time. Yeah. That’s the net result of 912 horsepower, a 97-kWh battery, and a tripartite of electric motors, the latest updates to the 2025-model-year version of the German brand’s all-electric four-door grand tourer, now the company’s most powerful production car ever, in that top RS Performance trim.

For the new model year, there are some blink-and-you’ll-miss-it styling tweaks, such as an optional matte darkened carbon roof, which works in combination with optional carbon camouflage elements. There are also a raft of new colour and wheel choices, including a set of forged and milled 21‑inch rims reminiscent of the so-called “AVUS wheel” Audi unveiled in 1991 on the Audi Avus quattro study. Pro tip: get ‘em.

As for the dandy new powertrain, electric all-wheel-drive helps with the scandalous level of acceleration described above, permitted by the trio of electric motors, two front and one aft. Specific power output comes in three flavours: the base S e-tron GT gets a wimpy 670 ponies; the RS e-tron GT reaches a maximum electric output of 844 hp; and the almighty RS e-tron GT Performance delivers an output of 912 horsepower.

Better cell chemistry and a rethought cooling system increases capacity of the battery from 84 kWh to 97 kWh whilst reducing the weight by nine kilograms (20 lbs). “More for less” is a calculation we can get behind, at least when it comes to batteries (or portions of poutine).

These alterations to the battery also permit maximum charging speed to rise from 270 kW to 320 kW, assuming one can find a charger which reliably belts out electricity at such a level. Audi says the car is able to maintain a charging speed greater than 280 kW until roughly 70% charge, and can do so in a wider range of temperatures.

Inside, customers will find redesigned seats and a new steering wheel (now flattened on the top and bottom) as well as refreshed entry sills, along with new digital content in the car’s infotainment system. The latter shows up as an upgraded Audi virtual co*ckpit providing new information on the battery temperature and showing the maximum possible charging power in real time.

As a cool throwback to the 1990s, owners of the RS Performance trim can select a white speedometer and power display, in a tribute to the 1994 Audi RS 2 Avant, whose analog dials were delivered in white.

Available to order right now in certain markets – the above specs are for Europe; we’ll post Canada’s when we get them – German customers will be asked to shell out at least 126,000 euros (CDN$185,600) for the S E-tron GT, or 147,500 euros (CDN$217,300) for the RS variant. Appending the “Performance” moniker to the end jacks that figure to 160,500 euros (CDN$236,400), but at these prices, who’s counting? At present in Canada, it isn’t impossible to crank the bill for a 2024 RS E-Tron GT to a cool quarter-million before fees and the infernal luxury tax foisted upon us all by Daddy Government.
