District 1 – Baudette area

CO Ben Huener (Roseau) checked sturgeon anglers on the Rainy River and Lake of the Woods. Turkey hunting activity was checked in Roseau and Marshall counties, and enforcement action was taken regarding two different parties for hunting turkeys without a license, with additional enforcement action taken for a turkey killed without a license in a previous year.
CO Tony Hams (Warroad North) spent the week checking area anglers, monitoring ATV traffic, and checking turkey hunters. Violations encounters were hunting without a license and operating a Class II ATV with juveniles without helmets.
CO Coby Fontes (Warroad South) spent the week patrolling area lands and waters. Enforcement action was taken for attempting to take a turkey without a turkey license, taking fish without an angling license, and expired watercraft registration.
CO Nicholas Prachar (Baudette West) reports that ice-out has been swift and sturgeon anglers have had success. Time was spent working angling activity. Enforcement action was taken for targeting fish out of season as well as outstanding warrants.
CO Jeremy Woinarowicz (Thief River Falls West) taught the law and ethics portion of the firearms safety classes in Warren and Oslo. He also checked anglers and turkey hunters during the spring turkey season opening weekend. Enforcement action for the week included angling with extra lines, angling without a valid license, no lights on an ATV, and an open alcohol container in motor vehicle.
CO Sarah Jahn (Thief River Falls East) spent time working the spring turkey opener. Turkey opener was slow with wet, cold weather likely keeping hunters away. However, those did brave the weather appeared to have good success. A firearms safety law talk was given in Argyle. Enforcement action was taken for transporting loaded firearms, burning prohibited materials, and allowing illegal youth operation on off-highway motorcycles.
CO Nick Bruesewitz (Karlstad) taught the law and ethics portion of the youth firearms safety class in Argyle. ?A? season turkey hunters saw some success in the cold conditions in the northwest. Additional time was spent working fire enforcement for failure to tend to a permitted fire.
CO Demosthenes Regas (Blackduck South) reports working spring beaver trapping, angling activity, and boating safety checks throughout this past week. Time was spent monitoring recreational vehicle trails with seasonal spring thaw closures and spring fish-run activity. Regas also reports handling several calls of incidental catches of otters from people who were beaver trapping.
CO Brice Vollbrecht (Blackduck North) checked area creeks and rivers for spring fish-run activity. Time was taken to patrol ATV trails and forest roads. Several incidentally caught otters were taken in.
District 2 – Bemidji area

CO Tom Hutchins (Crookston) reports helping staff a DNR informational booth at the Crookston Armory and speaking at an ATV safety class in Ada. Time was also spent checking anglers and monitoring fire activity in the area. Turkey hunters were also checked.
CO Andrew Goodman (Perham) monitored fish run activity and the first few days of spring turkey hunting. Additional time was spent catching up on reports and administrative tasks. Turbulent weather hampered water and angling activity.
CO Jordan Anderson (Osage) worked the fish run and recreational vehicle activities during the week. Several turkey hunters were encountered with birds seen, but little success getting them. Although the area received some rain in the beginning of the week, fire risk remained high.
CO Bill Landmark (Moorhead) spent the week checking turkey hunters, anglers, and beaver trappers in the Moorhead and Pelican Rapids stations. The cold weather prior to the weekend slowed the panfish bite some, but the fish started getting active again over the weekend. Landmark also attended a firearms safety class and spoke to the annual Pelican Rapids Pheasants Forever youth turkey hunt participants. The youth turkey hunt had 15 participants and all kids had a good time with their mentors.
CO Angie Warren (Mahnomen) worked angling, leeching, and fish run activity. Follow up on leeching, bear hunting regulation violations, and aquatic vegetation complaints was conducted. Station was patrolled for ATV and ORV activity.
CO Brady Manteufel (Bagley) checked a few groups of turkey hunters this week, along with conducting angling checks in the area. He was pleased to see youth out turkey hunting in a couple of the groups. Questions about public land use, leech and minnow traps, and furbearer trapping were answered. Manteufel would like to remind anglers to have their leech and minnow traps properly marked, before placing them.
CO Jamus Veit (Bemidji #2) spent the week working turkey opener, patrolling area lakes for angling activity, monitoring ATV traffic, and fielding calls from the public. Enforcement action was taking for angling without a license.

District 3 – Fergus Falls area

CO Hanna Wood (Fergus Falls) spent the week working on equipment maintenance and follow up.
CO Tricia Plautz (Henning) spoke to a firearms safety class on laws and ethics, assisted a neighboring officer with a TIP call, and monitored fish-run and turkey hunting activity. Turkey season has shown some good success in the area for the first season.
CO Ryan Brown (Elbow Lake) reports checking turkey hunting and angling activity this week. Very few hunters were out for the spring turkey season. Nuisance-animal calls were also received and fielded and questions regarding the upcoming fishing opener were answered.
CO Shane Osborne (Evansville) checked anglers, boaters, and ATV riders, and followed up on burning complaints. Calls regarding lampreys, bow fishing, injured animals and boat registration were handled. Firearms safety class questions were handled and routed to the safety section.
CO Jake Homan (Alexandria) spent the week patrolling Douglas County. Time was spent monitoring the spring fish run, angling activity, and the start of turkey hunting. With the changing weather, turkey hunters had a mix of success. Time was also spent assisting other local agencies.
CO Felicia Znajda (Osakis) spent a busy week investigating potential wetland violations, bear-related complaints, and dumping-in-public-waters violations. She checked many trout anglers, who were having a variety of success. Some of the cold days this week kept people inside, but there was still ATV activity to monitor.
CO Daniel Baumbarger (Glenwood) reports enforcement efforts for the week were focused on checking anglers, ATV operators, and turkey hunters. Baumbarger attended the Touch the Truck event at the Minnewaska Area High School, and continued work on a commercial inspection.

District 4 – Walker area

CO Patrick McGowan (Walker) patrolled Cass County lakes for angling and boating activity. McGowan also worked spring turkey hunters with hunters reporting limited success. Enforcement action throughout the week was taken for a variety of violations.
CO Nick Baum (Park Rapids) checked local panfish anglers and turkey hunters in the area. Enforcement action was taken for various angling violations. Baum has seen an increase in ATV activity in the area and took enforcement action for a variety of violations. Baum also investigated a public water violation and an aquatic plant violation.
CO Corey Sura (Remer) continued to monitor spring beaver-trapping activities in the area. Anglers and turkey hunters were also checked.
CO Michael Cross (Lake George) worked angling, ATV, and trapping activity. Cross also assisted Hubbard County Sheriff?s Office. Enforcement action was taken for angling, boating, and off-highway vehicle violations.
CO Adam Seifermann (Staples) reports checking angling and turkey hunting activity. He also fielded questions regarding turkey hunting laws and regulations and nuisance beavers.
CO Landyn Saewert (Wadena) responded to several fire-related calls during the week. Time was spent on recreational vehicle enforcement. A laws and ethics presentation were given to 40 students who attended a local firearms safety class. Saewert assisted at the firearms safety class field day at Knob Hill.
CO Mark Mathy (Cass Lake) worked a variety of activities including turkey hunting, ATV, fire enforcement, and angling activities. An alteration of a public water was also investigated, and leech traps were checked. Enforcement action was taken for ATV violations.
