The 7 D’s for Sustainability “Defence in depth” is now publically available: the only available integrated concept to build up a European Defence Union compatible with NATO, coordinated by me over the last months and with the input of leading European defence experts.✅Russia‘s aggression against Ukraine is directed against all of us also and tries to reintroduce the politics of Empire on the continent✅we have to build up our own European defence production capacity and soon✅the next Multi-Annual Financial Framework has to provide the necessary means for military mobility, research in the framework of an EU DARPA program and adress strategic capability gaps in space, cyber and air transport.✅Michel Barnier‘s concept for a European Civil Protection Service should be implemented in full. ✅Discussion about a European Military Model, a concept for Military Operations, Institutional Reform and how to deter against nuclear threats is necessary.

Thrilled and honored to be part of the TRA2024, participating in the dialogue about “Sustainable Mobility of People and Goods”. I will try to give an insight of the terrirorial context (and challenge) of sustainable maritime transportation and its distinctive role for islands supply, workers commuting and overall people’s mobility. It’s interesting to discuss about decarbonization of vessels, it’s also interesting to discuss about innovation in maritime, it’s getting even more interesting when you debate for spatial data and evidence. But the most challenging (and interesting by far…) is to define public policy solutions for the islands, combining all the above.
