CUMBERLAND [mdash] Gary "Jimmy" James Rice, born Aug. 30, 1942, passed away April 4, 2024, at UMPC in Cumberland. He was the son of the late George C. Rice and Cleo K (Miller) Rice. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Martha E (Sheehe) Rice; his son, Christopher C Rice; son-in-law, Lance "Chip" Steelman; a brother, Ed Widdows; 2 sisters-in-law, Shirley Widdows and Dianne Wensel; a brother in-law, Floyd Wensel; and three wonderful nephews, Bruce Widdows, Jeff Widdows, and Andy Wensel.Jim leaves behind three daughters, Kelly Llewellyn and husband, Dan; Kerry Steelman, Katie Rice (Jake Deremer); his nine grandkids, Daniel Llewellyn, Kristin Llewellyn, Jenna Beeman and husband, Matt, Casey Llewellyn, Ila Steelman, Thaddeus Deremer, Byron Deremer, Madeline Deremer, Chase Deremer; and two great-grandkids, Penelope and Delilah. Jim was born and raised in Cumberland. He graduated from Fort Hill High School, Class of 1961, where he played basketball and baseball. He continued to play baseball for many years within various leagues. Jim also continued to show his love of basketball as a referee. He followed that passion for over two decades, officiating at both the high school and college levels. He worked for 20 years at Kelly Springfield and later for 16 years at Rocky Gap Golf Course. During his time at Rocky Gap, he made many new friends. It was here that he found a new hobby; hunting for golf balls. He spent many hours sorting, washing, and then reselling them and many referred to him as "the ball guy." He loved his Rocky Gap family and spoke about them often. Dad had two life-long friends, Allan Stevenson and Pat Zumpano. His loving sister-in-law, Leslee Walters, was monumental to his care in his last weeks. Jim never met a stranger or had a negative word to say about anyone. He loved his family deeply and showed us by being "present." When he was talking to you, he was genuinely interested and engaged. There was never a doubt that he loved you. He was constantly making his rounds with a helping hand, never turning down a request to run an errand, mow a lawn, or transport a grandkid. He was passionate about sports and the great outdoors, but most especially golf, where he was able to fulfill both. He instilled his passion for golf in his kids as we were raised, putting into a plastic cup at the end of the hallway and pitching onto the sofa (Mom never did figure out why we would have random pictures hung to hide the dents). To know Jim was to love him. He had countless friends, young and old, and every one of them will tell you when they think of him, they smile or laugh reminiscing about one of his stories or jokes or just one of his quick-witted one-liners. He loved Bedford Rd VFD bingo, the Pirates and rooting for WVU and MD basketball. Jim was a self-less man, our Dad/Pappy, golf buddy, our rock, our comedic relief and sarcasm coach and the one person that you knew would show up, day or night, for whatever you needed and without a single complaint. He will be truly missed.Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur Street, Cumberland, Md., (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

<![CDATA[Cumberland Times News: Obituaries]]> (36)

CUMBERLAND [mdash] After an evening filled with serving the Lord and fellowship with many friends, Linda Jean McCusker passed away peacefully on March 30, 2024. We take comfort in knowing her Lord and Savior undoubtedly greeted her with open arms. Equally comforting is knowing she is now reunited with those loved ones she missed so dearly that preceded her in death with their own untimely, early passing, including her mother, Gloria Lehman Kinton, and her father, Eugene Kinton; her brothers, Donald Ray Kinton and Douglas T. Kinton; and her first grandchild, Keighen Matthew McCusker. In her early years, Linda grew up in Flintstone, where she attended Flintstone School. She would later move to Mississippi, where she graduated from Moss Point High School. Soon after, Linda returned to Allegany County, married and had two sons, Terry Donald and Shawn Ray.She often reminisced of earlier times. She thoroughly enjoyed discussing her home life memories and the neighborhood antics of her young boys with their friends.Linda loved her sons, as they grew up and began their own families, she looked forward to their checking-in calls and always cherished hearing about or visiting with her grandchildren, Kaden, Maverik, Maevah, Ian and Teagan who referred to her lovingly as "Grandma". She adored watching them grow, doing crafts around the holidays, traveling to the beach, attending their Baptisms and First Communions, visiting their homes, eating meals together, and attending their various sporting events throughout the year. Linda took pride in maintaining her longtime home on Shades Lane. In the past decade, she retired from the LaVale Walmart, but continued her weekly job of cleaning her church, Melvin United Methodist. In March of 2021, Linda sustained serious injuries in a car accident. After a brief recuperating stay with family, much of her independent life had to change.Up until the time of her passing, she continued to travel locally with the assistance of her friends, spending time with the Lord, attending HRDC functions and enjoying fellowship with her friends. Linda was the second eldest of four children, a devoted and prayerful mother, loving grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She leaves behind her two sons, Terry Donald and wife, Dawn, of Harrisonburg, Va.; and Shawn Ray, and wife, Katie, of Frostburg. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Kaden McElhenny and his wife, Mikayla; and Shawn Maverik, Maevah Ray, Ian Donald, and Teagan Marie. In addition, she is survived by her Aunt Faye(Lehman)May; Aunt Anna (Lehman)Waltman; her sister, Teresa Durgee, and husband, Dave; sister-in-law, Anna Kinton; her nephews, Sam, Jeremy, Doug, Donnie, and Andy; her niece, Karen; and her beloved cousins, Florene, Mike, Terri, Treva, Lucia, Andrea, and Mark. She also leaves behind several great nieces, Soumaya, Annelyse, Eliette; and great nephews, Nathan, Jaxon, and Dominic. She was blessed with compassionate neighbors, Katrina, Jason and Jordan Thompson, along with many close, reliable, and affectionate friends. We would be remiss to list all of their names in fear of leaving someone out. The family appreciates their friendship, love, and support over the past several years. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make a donation in Linda's honor to any of the following organizations: Melvin United Methodist Church, 100 Reynolds St. Cumberland, MD 21502; Holding Hands for Haley Foundation, P.O.
